In the late 1980s in China, in a seaside small town in the north, there is a large family led by the old veteran He Yuan. Besides the elderly couple He Yuan and Wu Suqin, there are also their four daughters and one son. He Yuan's biggest dream is to have all his daughters marry military husbands and for his son to find a virtuous wife, so that the whole family can live together in the He family courtyard. As He Yuan is facing retirement, he decides to immediately arrange for his second daughter He Fang to find a son-in-law to keep their long-standing residence. He Fang has to confess that she already has a good boyfriend. He Yuan discovers that her boyfriend is actually Xu Zhiyuan, the son of his old rival Xu Hao, and believes Xu Hao is trying to seize his old estate, so he firmly opposes the relationship.
