In Japan during the Edo period, a game called "Hyakumonogatari" became popular: a group of people would light a hundred oil lamps, and then each person would take turns telling ghost stories; after finishing each story, they would extinguish one lamp. It is said that when the last lamp goes out, true spirits will be summoned. "Kaidan Hyakumonogatari" tells eleven well-known mysterious stories in the form of one ghost story per episode. The onmyoji (played by Naoto Takenaka), who can witness youkai and vengeful spirits, serves as the connector of each story. He is a descendant of the great onmyoji but lives in poverty. His whereabouts are unpredictable, always accompanied by various supernatural events, and he strives to solve puzzles and eliminate evil spirits to the best of his ability. One night, he has a terrifying nightmare, and the next day he discovers that the nightmare actually came true. As events unfold, conspiracies gradually come to light. He slowly realizes that the so-called supernatural phenomena are actually caused by people themselves...
