FX's officially ordered series "Snowfall" has a first season consisting of 10 episodes, created by John Singleton, telling the story of the rise of drug trafficking in Los Angeles during the 1980s. Singleton, director of "Boyz N The Hood," co-wrote the script with Eric Amadio, and was directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. The pilot underwent reshooting, bringing in Dave Andron as a producer, and the series has qualified for tax incentives. The setting of "Snowfall" is during the early days of the drug epidemic, which eventually became known for its cultural impact. Franklin Saint (played by Damson Idris) sees himself as a street "entrepreneur" yearning for power; he was born and raised in South Los Angeles but studied in the more affluent San Gabriel Valley, determined to improve his life by any means necessary. Gustavo Zapata (played by Sergio Peris-Mencheta) is a Mexican wrestler caught in a power struggle within a criminal family. Teddy McDonald (played by Carter Hudson) is a CIA operative with dark secrets, conducting a covert, unsanctioned operation to fund Nicaraguan rebel activities. Emily Rios plays Lucia, the daughter of a Mexican crime family in Los Angeles, who maintains her integrity while her family smuggles marijuana into the city and sells drugs there. Michael Hyatt portrays Sharon Saint, also known as Cissy, Franklin's mother. Direct and to the point, she struggles in both her personal and professional life but is willing to give up her own dreams in order to provide her son with opportunities she never had. Amin Joseph plays Franklin's uncle Jerome Saint, a tough guy and con artist in prison who is a low-level marijuana dealer. Alon Aboutboul plays Avi Drexler, an unpredictable cocaine dealer in the San Fernando Valley. Isaiah John's character is not detailed. Angela Lewis plays Louise Saint, Franklin's sister-in-law, who enjoys partying; Juan Javier Cardenas portrays Alejandro Usteves, a cunning Nicaraguan rebel who is willing to do whatever it takes to maintain the revolution. Filipe Valle Costa plays the arrogant Pedro, the heir to the Mexican crime family.
