In 1978, war tore Italy in two: the Italian Communist Party (DCI) formed a groundbreaking alliance with the country's traditional conservative party - the Christian Democratic Party (DC) - which meant that for the first time in the history of Western countries, a government supported by communists was about to come to power. Aldo Moro, the chairman of the DC party, was the main supporter of this agreement. On March 16, 1978, the very day the new government was holding its inauguration ceremony, Aldo Moro was kidnapped in an ambush. He was held captive for 55 days, which meant 55 days of hope, fear, negotiations, failures, goodwill, and evil acts. After 55 days, his body was discovered in the trunk of a car, midway between the DC headquarters in Rome and the PCI headquarters.
