In a small town in Northeast China, Wang Kangmei (played by Fan Wei), who has worked as a train mechanic for most of his life, proudly retires. Wang suffers from a tracheal disease, his wife is hospitalized due to illness, his son Dajun is wasting time, and his daughter Xiaoping is experiencing marital issues with her husband Chunyang. Although many say he is fortunate despite his big ears and enjoys a fulfilling life, his current situation still leaves him worried. With a retirement pension that is half of what it used to be, Wang feels uncertain, prompting him to think about finding some work to do. However, things don't go well; his wife's illness friend introduces him to a network business job, which unexpectedly turns out to be a pyramid scheme, and he is shut down by the police shortly after joining.
