After the September 18 Incident, Shanghai medicine merchant Xiang Qingsong privately organized donations to support the Northeast Anti-Japanese Volunteer Army. His son, Xiang Binli, secretly participated in anti-Japanese activities without his father's knowledge. After the January 28 Incident broke out, Shanghai fell into chaos, and the Xiang family suffered greatly. Xiang Binli joined the Northeast Anti-Japanese Volunteer Army, but after his superiors surrendered, he sought refuge with the Communist-led Anti-Japanese Coalition. His superiors decided to send him back to Shanghai to establish an underground transportation line to provide supplies and medicines for the armed resistance. After the Battle of Songhu broke out, Xiang Binli joined the Second Brigade of the New Fourth Army, establishing a base in Central China and conducting guerrilla warfare, known as the "Jiangkang Brigade." They launched a night attack on the Hushu Pass station, completely annihilating the Japanese railway guard. The Shanghai military headquarters appointed Shankou Kazuo as the commander of the Wuxi garrison to deal with the Jiangkang forces. After two years of difficult maneuvers, both sides fought fiercely along various battlefronts with mixed victories and defeats. In 1941, after the Anhui-South Incident, the Jiangkang Brigade returned to the Central China base. After reorganization by the New Fourth Army Headquarters, it was established as the Central China Independent Brigade, with Xiang Binli appointed as the brigade commander. To disrupt the Japanese and puppet regimes' "Pacification" and "Agricultural Settlement" plans, they constantly engaged in combat with the enemy, ultimately witnessing the victory of the Anti-Japanese War in 1945.
