In Ling Snake Mountain, the two sisters, White Snake and Green Snake, devote themselves to their cultivation. At a critical moment in her trials, White Snake encounters danger but is saved by Xu Xian, who is on a quest for medicine. In her dream, White Snake learns the phrase "Entering the human world, recognizing cold and warmth" and goes into the city to seek the truth. The Great Demon King of the Underworld covets White Snake's spiritual pearl that he has desired for nearly a thousand years. Upon learning that White Snake has appeared in the mortal realm, he sends his underlings to seal the city and search for her. Ling Snake Mountain suffers a massacre, and White Snake transfers the thousand-year spiritual pearl into Xu Xian's body to help him escape. Learning that humans cannot approach the Demon King, Xu Xian sacrifices his heart. With the help of Dream Sea and Green Snake, he enters the Underworld to save White Snake, sacrificing himself in the process. A hundred years later, White Snake gives up on becoming an immortal and returns to the human world to look for Xu Xian, who has already been reincarnated.
