This is a story that is both familiar and unfamiliar to us, telling the different understandings and experiences of men and women of three different ages in a family regarding marriage and emotional life... Feng Shihui, an associate researcher at the Plant Research Institute, failed in her grafting experiment, and the pressure from work combined with the trivialities of household chores made her very frustrated. Meanwhile, her husband, Professor Qi Yue from a university's insect studies department, was working extra hard on a research project competing with an old classmate and an expert from Cambridge, completely disregarding Shihui's feelings. They started to argue over issues related to childcare and housework, unknowingly entering the seven-year itch after marriage. After passing her graduate entrance exam, Shihui's sister Feng Xueqing continued to date her boyfriend Wang Yi. Their mother, Shi Liangyu, believed Wang Yi should also pursue a graduate degree to match Xueqing, and intervened in various ways. However, Wang Yi's ambition was to start his own company, and after quarreling, the young couple had to part ways. Xueqing's father, Feng Tao, had to go along with his wife's views. Back then, Shihui disregarded her mother's opposition to break up with Chi Ming and married Qi Yue, who came from a rural background. Now, however, Shihui increasingly despises Qi Yue's macho attitude and unhygienic habits. Their complaints escalated into a separation and a cold war. Chi Ming's old feelings resurfaced, but Shihui has no regrets about her choices. Meanwhile, the distressed Qi Yue found understanding from Jiang Xinyue, a postdoctoral fellow from a single-parent family, and the two gradually developed feelings for each other. Upon hearing this, Shihui lost her composure, almost ending up in divorce with Qi Yue. But in his confusion, Qi Yue slowly came to realize the significance of children and family to him, ultimately standing by his wife in the critical moment. Meanwhile, Xinyue also understood that Qi Yue was just chasing the phantom of paternal love from his childhood. Feng Tao had a lover in his youth who is now terminally ill, and upon learning this, Shi Liangyu resolutely decided to care for her through her remaining days, which deeply moved Feng Tao. After many hardships, Wang Yi regained Xueqing, and the couple who loved each other finally became united. Life goes on, and Shihui and Qi Yue began to cautiously nurture the marriage and feelings they had finally managed to rebuild. This story explores different understandings of a happy marriage, emphasizing that marriage not only requires care, mutual understanding, and tolerance, but also careful nurturing and management. More importantly, when problems arise, one must learn to face them sincerely and courageously, and handle them calmly and wisely.
