In the winter of 1939, the Japanese army attacked the city of Bashan. Xu Shaohua, captain of the Nationalist guard battalion, was ordered to hold the line and cover the retreat of the main forces. A rural woman, Ge Qiuyue, narrowly escaped being raped by the Japanese army while entering the city, thanks to Xu Shaohua's rescue. The guard battalion suffered heavy losses in the fight against the Japanese, leaving Xu Shaohua disheartened. Ge Qiuyue brought the Bashan guerrilla team to launch a counterattack on the Japanese army and rescued Xu Shaohua. Zhu Ming, the leader of the Bashan guerrilla team, was killed in battle but entrusted his last wishes to Qiuyue to fight the Japanese to the end. The Japanese army swept through Ge's village, leaving Ge Qiuyue devastated and mourning her family's loss. However, Qiuyue did not give up; she continued to fight against the Japanese with the guerrilla team. Through her efforts, she expanded the anti-Japanese forces and established the Cheetah Anti-Japanese Detachment, successfully repelling multiple Japanese assaults and protecting the lives of the people in Bashan, composing a series of tragic national anthems.
