In 1927, white terror engulfed China. During a secret meeting at a café, underground Communist Party members Xia Feng and Zhu Lei were ambushed by Kuomintang agents led by Gao Yang. Zhu Lei's twelve-year-old daughter, Zhu Meiyun, witnessed her father's death before her eyes. Xia Feng was seriously injured and captured; his fiancée, progressive student Lu Mei, forcibly stifled her grief and hurriedly fled with Zhu Meiyun. Ten years later, Shanghai had become an isolated island. Lu Mei, now an expert in explosive devices for the Communist Party, had lost contact with her organization and was stranded in Shanghai. Zhu Meiyun, now a sharpshooter, returned to Shanghai with the sole purpose of avenging her father. The two encountered their enemy Gao Yang unexpectedly. Under the banner of national righteousness, they sought common ground while reserving differences. A patriotic nurse named Meng Xianglan, a wealthy member of the Qing Gang named Zhao Fei, a bodyguard named Ye San, and a female guerrilla fighter named Tie Niu joined them, forming a unique anti-Japanese team operating behind enemy lines. Deputy head of the Mei Society, Watanabe, secretly conspired to merge southern and northern traitors. At the same time, the Military Intelligence Bureau and the 76th unit were engaged in a brutal struggle. It was a massacre among classmates and friends. Guided by the principle of mutual opposition to Japan, Lu Mei led her team to assist Gao Yang in punishing a group of heinous traitors. However, she also paid a painful price. The Military Intelligence Bureau station in Shanghai was attacked, and Communist liaison officer Old Ma was sacrificed. In the end, Lu Mei concocted a scheme to lure Watanabe into a trap and eliminated traitor Wang Maolin. Watanabe's plan to merge with the southern traitors was forced to abort. After much effort, Lu Mei finally reestablished contact with her organization. Given the unique characteristics of her team, the organization decided that Lu Mei would lead the team to continue executing anti-Japanese tasks behind enemy lines. Watanabe learned that the National Government was secretly transferring a batch of national treasures from the Forbidden City to the south. Coveting these treasures, he immediately dispatched Wang Qun from the 76th unit to trace the leads. Due to the severe damage to the Military Intelligence Bureau's Shanghai station, Gao Yang had no choice but to seek Lu Mei's help. After receiving instructions from superiors, Lu Mei led her team to assist Gao Yang. Together with local guerrillas, they successfully ambushed Watanabe, transmitting the leads ahead of him. Watanabe's plan failed once again. Japanese military reporter Musashi, having witnessed the atrocities of the Nanjing Massacre, was mentally traumatized. He secretly fled with photographs documenting the Japanese troops' violations. In a bid to destroy the evidence, the Japanese army dispatched an elite task force to pursue him. Lu Mei was ordered to lead the team to escort Musashi to Chongqing. During the escort, the team accidentally entered a secret Japanese base, witnessing indoctrinated youths killing their adoptive parents. The team members were greatly shocked, and Musashi began to reevaluate the war. After several confrontations, the Japanese task force was eliminated, and the documentation on the Nanjing Massacre was safely delivered to Chongqing, revealing the Japanese army's atrocities to the public. With the help of the underground party, Lu Mei led her team to purchase a batch of urgently needed medicines for the New Fourth Army's field hospital. Watanabe dispatched the spy Meizi to assist Sada in tracking Lu Mei's team, attempting to trace the location of the field hospital. After deciphering Watanabe's plot, Lu Mei cleverly released false information to lure Sada into a pre-arranged encirclement. Sada narrowly escaped, but the spy Meizi was shot dead by Zhu Meiyun. The medicines were successfully delivered to the hospital, and the wounded were treated. Watanabe discovered the recently constructed armaments factory of the New Fourth Army, where the military expert Professor Sun was assassinated by Sada. To save the military industry just established by their party, Lu Mei received orders from her superiors to lead her team back to Shanghai to meet a firearms expert returning from Germany. Upon learning of this situation, Watanabe dispatched Sada to hunt down the firearms expert. Lu Mei formulated a plan, arranging for Gao Yang to create chaos while they covertly extracted the firearms expert amid the turmoil. Sada followed closely but was cleverly sniped by Zhu Meiyun. The firearms expert was safely transported to the base, and the armaments factory resumed operations. After suffering significant losses, Watanabe summoned Oye and Akiko to his side. Watanabe intercepted an important codebox. To obtain the documents contained within intact, he sent Oye to infiltrate the Tilanqiao prison, aiding imprisoned code expert Smith to escape. Gao Yang also entered the prison, attempting to stop Oye, only to find that Smith had escaped alone. After our party learned of this intelligence, Lu Mei led her team to assist Gao Yang in recovering the documents from the codebox. Under Lu Mei's clever planning, the team swapped the codebox with Smith. The codebox was successfully opened, and Gao Yang delivered the documents safely to Chongqing. The team also completed their mission successfully. A donation from a patriotic overseas Chinese was deposited in a Swiss bank, but only Dong Fulan outside the concession could withdraw the money. To facilitate this, Gao Yang led the Military Intelligence Bureau action team to raid the Suzhou concentration camp. Although Gao Yang rescued Fulan, the action team was almost completely wiped out. Lu Mei received orders from her organization to assist the Military Intelligence Bureau in transferring Fulan. This operation was commanded by the Military Intelligence Bureau officer known as "Master." However, in "Master's" plan, this Communist team played the role of cannon fodder. Upon learning this, Gao Yang resolutely returned to Lu Mei and the others, determined to fight alongside the comrades he had once fought with. The team encountered an ambush by Japanese troops, resulting in Zhu Meiyun's sacrifice. Zhao Fei and Ye San used their lives as bait to divert Watanabe. During the cover-up for the evacuation, Tie Niu also heroically sacrificed herself. Ultimately, Fulan was safely evacuated, but the team paid a heavy price. With Japan's defeat and surrender, Watanabe, who tried to escape judgment by playing stupid, was seen through by Lu Mei, and the two dueled. In a moment of crisis, Xia Feng, who had been missing for many years, suddenly appeared and shot Watanabe dead. Reunited with her lover, Lu Mei found numerous contradictions surrounding Xia Feng. Thus, Lu Mei secretly investigated. The events from that year gradually became clear: Zhu Lei learned that Xia Feng was an undercover agent hidden within their party, leading him to decide to eliminate the traitor. Meanwhile, Xia Feng sensed his exposure and ordered Gao Yang to ambush in the café. Lu Mei and Xia Feng, this pair of lovers, fell apart over their beliefs. At a critical moment, Gao Yang appeared and teamed up with Lu Mei to eliminate the "Master," Xia Feng. Looking back at the past, Gao Yang realized that his beliefs had changed, and under Lu Mei's influence, he embarked on the path of revolution.
