Ziwei (Lin Xinru) and her maid Jin Suo (Fan Bingbing) come from Jiangnan to the capital with a memento left by Emperor Qianlong (Zhang Tielin) for her mother, hoping to reunite with him. However, they find it impossible to meet him in the palace. When they reach a dead end, they encounter the female thief Xiaoyanzi and become friends. Unexpectedly, due to a twist of fate, Xiaoyanzi, who is eager to help Ziwei, is mistakenly identified by Qianlong as his own daughter. To celebrate the retrieval of his beloved daughter, Qianlong holds a sacrificial ceremony to the heavens. When the procession passes through the streets, Ziwei and Jin Suo see it.
