The story takes place in the southern water towns of China in the late 1930s. The team led by civilian anti-Japanese warrior Gao Mingyuan is a well-known anti-Japanese force in the area. During a rescue operation to save people from a Japanese prison, they unexpectedly encounter the New Fourth Army guerrilla team and a former classmate—now the captain of the New Fourth Army guerrilla team, Xin Yue.
