Set against the backdrop of Suzhou in the 1920s and 1930s, this drama tells the bittersweet tale of a "Cinderella" who rises from humble beginnings to establish herself in high society, relying on a traditional family of spice merchants. The intricate family relationships in the story clearly define both the good and the evil, showcasing a perfect interpretation of the traditional "Cinderella" narrative with characters whose fates fluctuate dramatically. A kind-hearted and strong-willed "Cinderella," a traditional business family experiencing turmoil, a complex history of internal family struggles, and a tribute to the inherent goodness of humanity all shape the style and tone of the drama. The story creates a secluded garden within the drama, supported by a magnificent Jiangnan garden, blending elements of both Eastern and Western traditions from the Republican era, encompassing both old and modern views. It uses a plot-driven approach to create an emotional drama, emphasizing conflicts and intensifying the storyline while skillfully combining "palace intrigue" and "family drama." The Wang couple is poisoned, leading to their family's decline. Their only daughter, Die Qiu, conceals her identity and hides in the medicinal herbs merchant Yin's house. Die Qiu dedicates herself to creating the extraordinary spice "Drunken Butterfly," intending to lure out her father's killer, but instead attracts numerous butterflies, as well as brothers Chu Zixia and Mo Fuchun. Both brothers fall in love with Die Qiu at first sight, and she eventually makes her way into the Chu family, taking charge of the spice business. Zhu Ying, a girl raised by the Chu family who admires her brother Zixia, constantly troubles and torments Die Qiu. Die Qiu's cousin, Xio Dong, often helps her out of perilous situations, and she develops feelings for Fuchun during their interactions. Die Qiu and Zixia fall in love, but she inadvertently discovers that Chu's father is the very person who killed her father! When confronted by Chu's father, Die Qiu chooses to withdraw. However, in order to fulfill Zixia and Die Qiu's love, Chu's father commits suicide, leading to a rift between Zixia and Die Qiu. Following Chu's father's death, Zixia falls ill, and the Chu family declines. Die Qiu steps up to save the Chu family's spice business, successfully reclaiming the market. Zhu Ying continues to make things difficult for Die Qiu, causing her to go blind. Die Qiu discovers that Zhu Ying is actually her half-sister and repeatedly tolerates her aggressiveness. Eventually, Zhu Ying realizes her wrongs and chooses to perish with the bully Wu Jiedong; Fuchun decides to leave as well, yet the love-hate entanglement between Die Qiu, Zixia, and Fuchun remains unresolved, leading to an even more complicated ending.
