The beautiful and virtuous single mother Yu Jianping received a court summons, yet again, for the maintenance fees of her six-year-old daughter, Juanzi, against her long-divorced husband Jiang Jun. Upon hearing that Jiang Jun refused to pay child support, Jianping’s younger brother, the enthusiastic and impulsive Jianwei, rushed over to teach Jiang Jun a lesson, only to be unexpectedly taught a lesson by Jiang Jun instead. Jiang Jun is a typical scoundrel, poor and disheveled, who not only refuses to pay child support but even blackmails Jianwei for the nosebleed he received from Jianwei's punch. Furious and out of options, Jianwei's childhood sweetheart and neighbor, Dazi, quietly provided the money to resolve Jiang Jun's blackmail and support Juanzi. Dazi is a filial son who never dares to go against his mother's wishes. Years ago, his mother disapproved of Jianping's financial difficulties, and at her behest, Dazi broke up with Jianping. Jianping, once a hotel employee, was publicly shamed when caught having sex with a guest shortly after their split, leading to her dismissal and loss of reputation. The scoundrel Jiang Jun married the humiliated Jianping, resulting in the birth of the clever and precocious Juanzi. Dazi struggles with an embarrassing ailment; despite seeking numerous renowned doctors, he remains unable to treat his impotence. His wife, Jin Ling, beautiful and clever, has long sought a new boyfriend outside their six-year marriage, leading to an increasingly hollow relationship. Dazi has felt guilty towards Jianping for many years and wishes to marry her after their divorce, but the conflict with Dazi's mother has never been resolved—she despises Jianping for not changing her circumstances, viewing her as a burden due to her child and an ailing father. Caught in the middle, Dazi feels torn. Dazi's mother brings a girl, Chun Ting, from the countryside, hoping to match her with Dazi to make Jianping give up. Jianping’s budding hope of rekindling her relationship with Dazi is dashed. Jianwei has always wished for his sister to marry Dazi, treating him like a brother. Fearing Chun Ting might take a liking to Dazi, Jianwei begins an obsessive and abnormal pursuit of her, only to unexpectedly fall in love with the kind and simple Chun Ting amid their antics, leading to a private commitment and marriage. After wedding, they discover Chun Ting, hailing from a wealthy rural family, is both prudent and well-mannered. Dazi's mother nearly goes mad with anger, believing all misfortunes stem from Jianping’s family. After Chun Ting marries Jianwei, Dazi's mother demands her son move far away from them. Dazi never dares to defy his mother's orders and agrees. Jianping feels disappointed again upon learning of Dazi's forced distance. Jianping's younger sister, the passionate and beautiful Jianhong, effortlessly charms the head of her cooperative company, a move that some view as leveraging her beauty, though she has never slept with any boss. While Jianhong maintains her pride, she also feels inferior, unable to confide in her family or pursue romance openly. Wang Yong, a regular employee who keeps running into Jianhong, falls in love with her. Upon learning of Jianhong's identity, Wang Yong can’t maintain his composure, and Jianhong, hurt by her self-esteem, makes a surprising decision to set Wang Yong up with another girl. Her carefree attitude shocks Wang Yong, and he finds it impossible to ignore his feelings for Jianhong. Wang Yong resigns for Jianhong’s sake. Jianping learns about Jianhong’s professional secret and is astonished, but Jianhong no longer cares. Unlike Jianwei, who supports Dazi’s marriage to Jianping, Jianhong staunchly opposes it, seeing Dazi as someone who abandoned her sister. Jianping is already disappointed in Dazi, and the contrasting attitudes of her siblings make things more confusing. Jianping loses her job, compounding her troubles. Dazi helps resolve Jianping's work issues by offering her a position at his small shop. However, Jianping once again rejects Dazi's romantic advances. At this time, another woman enters the picture. Ma Xiaolan, the sister of Dazi's friend, looking to remarry after her divorce, stays at Dazi's shop. The awkwardness shared between Jianping, Dazi, and Ma Xiaolan makes Jianping's resurfacing emotions dissipate again. Eventually, Ma Xiaolan leaves, allowing Dazi and Jianping their first private conversation in years. It was Jianping and Dazi who had once been involved sexually at the hotel. Dazi had to break up with Jianping under maternal pressure, but Jianping, unable to resist her feelings, ended up being intimate with Dazi. Just as they reached a climax, they were interrupted, causing Dazi to develop impotence, carrying the blame silently. Jianping, on hearing Dazi mention his disorder for the first time, is taken aback. For years, they both suffered greatly from that incident. When it’s time to resolve their grievances, however, Dazi's mother has new demands. She believes Dazi's impotence is due to a lack of cooperation from his wife, whom she accuses of deliberately not having children. Jianping flies into a rage, determined to marry without conditions. With Dazi's mother meddling in their lives, the couple could never find peace. Just when they seemed on the brink of success, they are torn apart again. Dazi is emotionally drained but dares not express his feelings to his mother. He partners to open a new factory, handing over his small shop to Jianping as one last favor. They both sense the bittersweet finality of their situation, acknowledging they could never be together again. Dazi leaves Jianping, who treasures the cup he used, keeping it as a precious memory. Jianhong introduces Wang Yong to a girl who turns out to be a scammer. In the name of marriage, the scammer takes a sum of money and discreetly flees abroad. Jianhong regrets this and vows to compensate Wang Yong. Yet, Wang Yong insists he wants nothing in return; he loves Jianhong. He doesn't care about her profession; he loves her as a person. However, Jianhong believes she’s unworthy of his affection, causing them repeated misunderstandings. Eventually, Jianhong resigns from her high-paying job to become a real estate salesperson. Jianping crosses paths with Chen Siwei, a manager at an advertising company and a single father, who falls for her at first sight due to her worthy qualities as a good wife and mother. He begins to pursue her. Jianping gradually scales up her company, with Chen contributing significantly to her efforts. Jianhong supports this new man, while Jianwei is furious. Meanwhile, Dazi faces his own challenges. His factory collapses, causing him to lose his home, and he ends up working as a laborer. Jianwei runs into him at a construction site. Learning of Jianping's newfound success brings Dazi mixed feelings; he fears that Jianping might also be deceived as he was. But pride prevents him from accepting Jianping's invitation to join her company. Jianhong confronts Dazi, urging him to decide: either make Jianping give up on him, as she will be good with Chen, or fight for her, rather than keep dragging it out. It is then Dazi realizes Jianping has always harbored feelings for him, though they were both unaware. For Jianping, Dazi bravely enters her company, enduring Jianhong's demands and forced acceptance of the changes in Jianping’s status. Though he claims he and Jianping are over, he secretly hopes to win her back from Chen. During this time, Jianhong begins to change her perspective on Dazi—he is not a coward; she had misjudged him in the past. As Chen Siwei proposes, Jianping hesitates, unaware that her doubts stem from her love for Dazi. Just as she struggles with indecision, Jiang Jun appears. Aware that Jianping has come into money, Jiang Jun blackmails her through Chen and becomes infuriated when he realizes he cannot pressure her. Simultaneously, Chen Siwei's ex-wife arrives to confront Jianping, revealing that Chen and his ex-wife still have lingering feelings. These two events lead to Chen Siwei's rejection. Jianping, disheartened, has even more conflicts with Dazi. Dazi quietly bears the burden, always subordinating his own needs for Jianping. When Dazi's mother falls ill and he is away on business, Jianping visits her. Dazi's mother is willing to sacrifice everything for her son, even going so far as to mortgage the house to ease his financial stress. Jianping, understanding the complexities of Dazi's mother’s feelings, finds that after years of grievances, the two can finally express their true thoughts. Dazi's mother doesn't dislike Jianping but fears she will burden Dazi. Now, as Dazi faces hardships, Jianping unexpectedly aids him, deeply moving Dazi's mother. Upon discovering it was Dazi who had an encounter with Jianping at the hotel all those years ago, Dazi's mother is stunned. The shame Jianping endured for Dazi’s protection was unforeseen by her. After years of grievances, the two reconcile. Dazi's mother regrets her past actions and plans to return to her hometown, no longer interfering with Dazi, thus allowing him and Jianping to be together. However, Jianping, weighed down by years of suffering, finds it hard to focus on her own affairs. Wang Yong finally erupts, confessing his feelings to Jianhong, unbothered by her past actions. Jianhong finally accepts his love. With her younger siblings settled, Jianping hopes to take a breath but finds that Jiang Jun remains a lingering nightmare. Upon learning of Jianping's financial success, Jiang Jun resurfaces with a new scheme, shamelessly demanding a DNA test for Juanzi. Jianping dismisses the idea, only to be stunned by the results—Juanzi is not Jiang Jun’s! Jiang Jun's threat becomes a reason for extortion, as he spirals into destructiveness over Jianping’s business. Dazi, upon learning of the crisis, confronts Jiang Jun, who claims the child is Dazi's, to which Dazi refuses to deny. Dazi boldly declares that the child is his and warns Jiang Jun that should he continue to make trouble, he will step in as the child's father. After unleashing his fury, Jiang Jun finally leaves. Dazi visits the identification center, but to his dismay, they find the results were incorrect; both he and Jianping understand that Juanzi cannot be his biological child. When Jianping asks why he has borne this burden quietly, Dazi confesses that it doesn't matter whose child it is; Juanzi feels like his own daughter. Jianping is finally moved by Dazi, realizing they have both silently endured for each other while also harboring deep love. Dazi wishes to propose to Jianping again, but his mother has new complications. Dazi's mother wants to remarry, no longer interfering in Dazi and Jianping's relationship. Dazi vehemently opposes this, believing that his mother's remarriage would diminish his ability to find a wife. With Dazi's unusual stubbornness, his mother and Jianping unite for the first time, striving to change Dazi's mindset. Jianping encourages Dazi's mother to seek happiness, and she, in turn, helps Jianping and Dazi to marry... After numerous trials and complications, Dazi and Jianping finally come together.
