This drama is adapted from the novel "Heart Protector" by Jiu Lu Fei Xiang. The story follows the millennia-old spirit dragon Tian Yao (played by Hou Ming Hao) who, on his wedding day, is subjected to the cruel act of being skinned by his beloved Su Ying. The powers of the five elements seal his dragon body in various places, and one of the scattered Heart Protector scales unexpectedly falls into the hands of the Xuanmen cultivation girl Yan Huai (played by Zhou Ye) who has a congenital defect in her heart. With the Heart Protector scale in her possession, she carries dragon blood within her, enabling her to help him break the seal. Thus, Tian Yao begins to utilize Yan Huai, and a sweet yet torturous fated entanglement unfolds between the earnest spirit dragon and the mischievous girl.
