When she arrives near Shaoyao Village, Xiaohua, exhausted and hungry, collapses on the ground and is rescued by passing villagers. Although the villagers pity her as a wild girl, they hesitate to adopt her for fear of adding to their already heavy burdens. The elderly Baozhu Dad (played by Tian Chengren) is a kind-hearted old man. Afraid that Xiaohua, who is already on the brink of death, might suffer further harm, he secretly carries her home despite the opposition of Baozhu (played by Yu Weijie) and daughter-in-law Xiangcao (played by Hao Yang). The two, who have no blood relation, begin a life of relying on each other. Xiangcao, unable to conceive, sees Xiaohua as a thorn in her side, but even her cold heart cannot resist the warmth and tears of this exceptionally understanding and kind girl, gradually melting away her resistance.
