In Beijing, Houhai is a nostalgic refuge for many. "Backstreet in Houhai" uses the changes of the Shichahai bar street as its backdrop, telling the story of several young people whose lives are disrupted by the transformations in Houhai. Huang Lei tries the role of a community officer for the first time in the series. In his own words, it's "wearing a uniform but not solving cases." When talking about his experience of "being a police officer," Huang Lei can't hide his excitement: "It's my first time playing a public security police officer, and it feels particularly fresh. To look more like a police officer, I even got a very short haircut. After putting on the uniform, I really want to take a stroll around the street. Now I understand that there are many details to wearing a uniform, like not putting your hands in your pockets or crossing your arms." When mentioning the script, his literary temperament is revealed in his words: "There is a simple life behind the prosperity in Houhai. Once you enter a siheyuan, your heart feels particularly calm, and the bricks under your feet are all weathered." Wang Jinsong, recognized by the audience for playing the slingshot-wielder in "Who Says I Don't Care" and Ye Dou in "Don't Talk to Strangers," breaks free from minor roles this time, playing the protagonist in the series and shaping the image of a small businessman struggling in the bar street, entangled in a love triangle with Huang Lei and Ma Su.
