The drama tells the story of 2016, in a northern city. Su Diandian graduates from university and faces her first major decision in life living with her single mother: should she choose the career she loves or follow her mother's arrangements? When Su Diandian decides to go to UNIQUE magazine, her mother Su Zijuang initially strongly opposes it. Later, upon learning that Su Diandian's biological father, Wanshiru, works at UNIQUE, she even goes so far as to falsely claim she has a terminal illness to fulfill her daughter's wish. Facing Su Zijuang's dying request, the editor-in-chief of UNIQUE, Lin Sen's husband—who is also Su Zijuang's first love, Qi Darui—accepts the task at great moral risk, sparking grievances from over twenty years ago. Through her experiences at UNIQUE magazine, with the help of Wanshiru, Su Diandian evolves from a novice in the workforce into a charming woman.
