The story takes place in the early 1940s. Nationalist army cryptography expert Bai Dayi (played by Xu Wenguang) inadvertently falls into a trap set by the Japanese army. While being forced to serve the enemy, he accidentally discovers that the Japanese are developing a horrific drug that, when administered to children, can block the central nervous system in their brains, turning them into easily manipulated slaves. With his conscience intact, Bai Dayi is determined to expose the atrocities of the Japanese invaders at the cost of his own life. Soon, both the Nationalists and the Communists learn of the enemy's sinister plot. The Yan'an side employs high-ranking undercover agent Lin Yingying (played by Mei Ting) who is lurking in the Kuomintang’s Military Intelligence Bureau, while the Chongqing side sends agent Jin Shen Shui (played by Wang Zhifei) to delve deep into enemy territory to thwart the Japanese army's conspiracy. They engage in a life-and-death struggle against the Japanese researchers, including Kawashima Yafuyu (played by Huo Qing) and others. In the midst of battle, Lin Yingying successfully persuades Jin Shen Shui to switch sides but sadly sacrifices herself...
