In 1936 Shanghai, Xu Jifa, who was adopted as a child, is a detective assigned to investigate a case of a fall from a building. Just when he faces a desperate situation due to being framed during his investigation, he unexpectedly encounters his long-lost mother and younger brother. He learns that his background is connected to a gold robbery case from 15 years ago, and the mastermind behind it is the same group involved in the fall case. His younger brother, Lin Yichen, is mistakenly identified as the killer of Xu Jifa. To solve the case and seek revenge, Xu Jifa disguises himself as his brother and continues to pursue the truth. After much difficulty, Xu Jifa finally brings all the criminals to justice. Throughout his quest for the truth, Xu Jifa witnesses the corruption and darkness of the Nationalist government, making him realize that the tragedy he faces is due to the corruption of society as a whole. He begins to engage with new ideas, shifting his focus from personal grievances to national concerns.
