Bai Suzhen (played by Sun Xiaoxiao) is a snake demon with a thousand years of Taoist cultivation. Guided by the Bodhisattva Guanyin, she comes to the human world, where she encounters her benefactor Xu Xian (played by Lu Hong), who saved her in her past life. In order to repay her kindness from the past, Bai Suzhen offers herself in marriage, and the two eventually become a couple, running a medicine shop together. Fa Hai (played by Zhang Tianyang), manipulated by a trace of evil thoughts from his past life, cannot stand the union of humans and demons, and thus tries every means to separate Bai Suzhen and Xu Xian. To coerce Bai Suzhen, Fa Hai holds Xu Xian captive in Jinshan Temple.
