In the summer, while the special agents of the Border Area Security Bureau were escorting a central leader (Zhou Enlai) to Xi'an for negotiations, their truck was suddenly attacked by bandits, resulting in many soldiers sacrificed and the leader narrowly escaping disaster. This unexpected event left Li Mu, the head of the Central Intelligence Department, both angry and shocked, ordering Zhou Jin, the head of the Border Area Security Bureau, to solve the case within a limited time. Zhou Jin felt deeply ashamed and, having come from the Long March, swore to root out the enemy and traitors behind this incident, or else he would pack his bags and go raise pigs. The planner of this attack was Chen Jiyuan, a spy from the Anti-Communist National Salvation Army's underground station in Shaanxi. He hailed from a prominent family, was handsome and intelligent, and had exceptional courage, but unfortunately chose the wrong path, being a loyal follower of Wang Jingwei. Although the attack did not harm the Communist leaders, Chen Jiyuan still promoted and rewarded Li Qingwu, the local elder responsible for this attack, keeping him quite happy. Zhou Jin and Deputy Director Wang Bin disguised themselves as investigators in the urban area and quickly identified a hidden informant, who disguised himself as a sweet potato vendor and discovered signs that the Security Bureau was likely to escort a central leader. Zhou Jin decided to draw the snake out of its hole and eliminate the bandits in one fell swoop! At this time, a female soldier named Yan Xi arrived to report to the Security Bureau under Li Mu's orders. Zhou Jin, who had always looked down on women, became enraged and shouted for her to leave. Yan Xi, in anger, actually left. Zhou Jin was scolded by Li Mu and, after learning that Yan Xi was a university student studying radio, reluctantly admitted his mistake and brought her back, assigning her to monitor the radio station, to which Yan Xi complied with a smile. In contrast to Zhou Jin, the Security Bureau had always been composed entirely of men, so the appearance of the beautiful female university student Yan Xi naturally caused a stir throughout the Bureau. The nearby small stores sold out of tooth powder, and the counting and singing before meals became unusually loud, prompting Zhou Jin to repeatedly praise everyone's spirit. Mao Xuyan, the head of the Anti-Communist National Salvation Army's Shaanxi underground station, arrived to oversee Chen Jiyuan in Ganquan. Mao Xuyan had great trust and appreciation for Chen Jiyuan, considering them not only teacher and student but also close friends. When Mao Xuyan saw Chen Jiyuan seriously studying Marxist-Leninist works, particularly his fluent recitation of the "Communist Manifesto" and his ability to deeply interpret it, he felt even more admiration. Chen Jiyuan said he was doing all this in hopes of one day infiltrating Yan'an. Mao Xuyan was delighted, as this aligned perfectly with a plan he brought: to send someone to infiltrate Yan'an and assassinate the highest leader of the CCP (Mao Zedong)! Although Mao Xuyan initially did not intend for his beloved subordinate to carry out such an almost impossible task, he was eventually moved by Chen Jiyuan's determination and saw hope for success in it. It just so happened that intelligence arrived through another channel indicating that the Security Bureau was preparing to "draw the snake out of its hole and eliminate the bandits"; Mao and Chen decided to use this to their advantage, sacrificing Li Qingwu's bandit troops as a cover to paralyze the Security Bureau and protect Chen Jiyuan's infiltration into Yan'an. At Yan Xi's insistence, and to make her understand the horrors of war, Zhou Jin specifically assigned bodyguard Li Mantun to protect Yan Xi during the anti-bandit operation. Unexpectedly, during the battle, Yan Xi not only showed no fear but even turned out to be a sharpshooter, saving Li Mantun from enemy gunfire at a crucial moment, astonishing the male members of the Security Bureau, and leaving Zhou Jin in disbelief. Wang Bin, however, sensed something unusual and reminded Zhou Jin that this woman did not seem like a radio monitoring officer dispatched by superiors. Indeed, after the battle ended, Yan Xi's formal appointment came through——Deputy Director of the Security Bureau, while Wang Bin was transferred to work in the enemy-occupied area. Zhou Jin was dumbfounded. Despite realizing that Yan Xi, a radio prodigy from Nanjing Central University, not only had rich underground work experience but also had researched codes and other espionage knowledge due to the influence of foreign instructors, he remained resistant to the idea of being assigned a female partner. Yan Xi, on the other hand, cared little about this, managing work, study, dressing up, and romance without missing a beat, which made Zhou Jin often frown at her, while other colleagues in the Security Bureau were quite pleased. As Chen Jiyuan prepared to infiltrate Yan'an, another pair of Japanese spies, Kong Fan and Xiao Ying, had already arrived in Yan'an. Kong and Xiao were originally agents of the Soviet Red Army's intelligence group, who, after training in the Soviet Union, were dispatched to the Japanese-occupied area of Shenyang to collect intelligence for the Soviet Red Army while also maintaining contact with the CCP. Soon, the two were captured by the Japanese army; they coerced Kong Fan into betraying after threatening to make Xiao Ying a comfort woman. Subsequently, the couple came to Yan'an under the pretense of reporting to the central authority while actually collecting intelligence. Since they were compatriots, they were naturally met by the Security Bureau. Zhou Jin and Kong Fan had previously been in a short training class together and hit it off, often chatting. When the couple's journey reached Yan'an, and Zhou Jin learned that Xiao Ying was pregnant, he took the initiative to seek permission from superiors for them to remain in Yan'an to give birth. During this time, Kong Fan continued to contact the Japanese army and transmit intelligence by publishing poetry in the "Liberation Daily." Yan Xi's suspicion towards Kong Fan arose from two poems that the "Liberation Daily" had returned to the Security Bureau, which was an interest not very typical for the spy profession, leading Yan Xi to become interested in Kong Fan's poetry. Yan Xi gathered all the poems Kong Fan had published in the "Liberation Daily" and discovered signs of coded language often used by spies within these manuscripts. Although Zhou Jin was skeptical about such word games, he still agreed to further investigate Kong and Xiao. The investigator Li Ran immediately felt love at first sight upon seeing Yan Xi, but did not dare to reveal it; he then took the initiative to volunteer to investigate Kong and Xiao. In fact, Xiao Ying had always disapproved of Kong Fan's act of betrayal but could not persuade her husband and was well aware of the fate of traitors. She could only hope to leave Yan'an soon after giving birth, wishing to put an end to such a tormenting existence. At this time, the Japanese army learned from the newspaper that Kong Fan and his wife had infiltrated Yan'an, so they intensified their training for special forces, preparing to seize the opportunity to implement an attack involving sending special forces into Yan'an to assassinate the highest leader of the CCP...
