In her past life, the Bodhisattva of Compassion established a grand vow before the Buddha, reincarnating to awaken sentient beings in the human world, guiding them on the path of goodness to free them from suffering. Just as the Bodhisattva reincarnated as the third princess Miaoshan of the Miaozhuang Kingdom, a black-clad witch (the Demon Carp) rolled in dark clouds, surrounding the auspicious clouds and falling into the royal bedchamber, claiming that the third princess was possessed by a demon and inciting the ministers and the people to believe that the kingdom would be difficult to protect without getting rid of her. The Prime Minister, Huo Yu, who was eagerly plotting to usurp the throne, used this as a reason to pressure the king to throw the infant princess into the sea... After being saved, the black-clad witch was relentless in her evil, pursuing the family of Yin Ma who bravely rescued and nurtured Miaoshan at the Great Fragrant Mountain, creating illness and accidents to threaten the Yin couple. Unable to succeed in her schemes, she pushed Yin Miaoshan and her father off a cliff, intending to kill Miaoshan.
Miaoshan grew up through various trials and tribulations, ringing the morning bell and attending evening classes, wholeheartedly devoted to Buddhism. She received enlightenment from the Buddha, and with her adoptive father, devoted all her efforts to healing and helping the forest people, cultivating good relationships with neighbors. When the witch learned that Huo Yu was even more eager to seize the throne, she informed the third princess of her whereabouts, claiming that Miaoshan was the greatest obstacle to the usurper's power. Thus, a series of sinister and brutal plays were staged by the witch and the treacherous minister. In the end, Miaoshan used the precious box and pure bottle granted by the Buddha to extinguish them in the Guanyun Cave. Miaoshan requested the Miaozhuang King to restore the Baique Temple, and she and her two disciples attained enlightenment and ascended to the heavenly realm, being granted the title of Great Compassionate and Great Merciful Guanyin Bodhisattva by the Buddha.
