In middle age, Yu Dapai (Zhang Guoli) has had a hard life and seems to have never encountered any good fortune. Once a truck driver for a state-owned factory, he turned to driving a taxi after the factory closed, working tirelessly to make a meager living. His wife, Zhu Meilian (Deng Jie), could no longer tolerate his dull temperament and left him.
