The television sitcom "The Crew is Here" revolves around the process of a film crew producing a historical drama. Through the depiction of the thoughts, behaviors, and work lives of key crew members such as the director, lead actors, and production manager, it reveals the dazzling state of today's Chinese film and television industry and the humorous incidents that arise. The production manager, Gong Xincheng (played by Gong Hanlin), is about 45 years old, has been with the crew for years, is familiar with various matters in the industry, is sharp and capable, articulate, humorous, sociable, sophisticated yet kind-hearted, and willing to go to great lengths to save costs. He often faces pressure from both the cast and the investors and is a fundamentally good person with many small flaws. Gong Xincheng finally obtains the coveted script for the historical TV series "Love and Hate in the Sea" and secures the first round of investment. With ambition, he starts recruiting talent, and his first thought is to hire Zhou Jun (played by Zhou Yingnan) as the assistant director, a well-connected 25-year-old who is enthusiastic and straightforward but sometimes impulsive and sycophantic, dreaming of one day becoming a real director. At Zhou Jun's recommendation, the crew engages the somewhat famous director Li Dapeng, 35, who studied film in the UK and believes TV dramas are not true art, aspiring to create a masterpiece film. He often narcissistically refers to "when his brother was in London" and portrays himself as an artistic master. However, faced with fierce competition and the need to earn a living, he reluctantly accepts the role of director for this TV drama. Li Dapeng first recommends his ambiguously close actress friend Sun Bingbing to play the female lead Rong Gege. Miss Sun, 23, graduated from a renowned art institution, is relatively new to the industry, believes she meets all the criteria to be a star but lacks opportunity. She can be sharp and strategic at times, yet inexperienced in worldly matters. Sun Bingbing recommends her senior Chen Baoming to play the male lead Wu Beile. Chen, in his early 30s, has appeared in some second-rate dramas, has a good appearance but poor acting skills; he is stingy, pretentious, timid yet loves to boast. The investors send their cousin Jin Yuzhu (played by Jin Zhu) as the public relations producer to oversee the crew's finances. In her 40s, she is assertive, works energetically, is brave to take responsibility, upholds justice, and often uncovers the production manager's minor schemes, earning both fear and respect from everyone. She understands the crew's struggles and secretly assists them in overcoming various difficulties. Jin Yuzhu analyzes that the current cast is not strong enough, so for the drama to be successfully released and recoup its investment, they need to hire a star with significant appeal. Based on her suggestion, the investors decide to hire the popular actress Fan Feifei as the female lead. At 28, she has been famous for years, is arrogant, haughty, superficial, and self-satisfied; her flaws are reminiscent of many well-known actors and make her detested by everyone. Yet in critical moments, she steps up to help the crew solve many problems, gradually gaining understanding and acceptance from the cast. The hiring of Fan Feifei makes the director and Sun Bingbing quite unhappy. Ultimately, they have to compromise, and Sun Bingbing settles for the supporting role of Fan's maid, Cuihong. Sun feels a great imbalance, believing she is as qualified as Fan Feifei, and secretly competes with her, trying various ways to convince the director and the writer to increase her role, causing lots of trouble and ultimately leading to her downfall by outsmarting herself. Assistant director Zhou Jun sympathizes with Sun Bingbing's plight; they find comfort in one another, and a will-they-won't-they romantic tension runs throughout the show. In the end, she believes Zhou Jun's "stable job has no fixed income" is not beneficial for her life and career, leading her to seek greener pastures. Director Li Dapeng always wants to establish authority in the crew, but he often finds himself at a disadvantage in confrontations with the female lead, frequently facing pushback from her and feeling helpless. Yet he stubbornly tries to save face, often taking his frustrations out on the assistant director. Every appearance of other crew members, extras, investors, and sponsors leads to waves of chaos and humor. The sitcom "The Story of the Crew" tells stories unfolding within an ordinary TV crew, reflecting on representative events and figures in the film and television industry, using humor and wit to satirize and critique the many misdeeds of bad actors in the industry. Boredom with publicity stunts, talent shows, overnight fame, litigations against media, celebrity endorsements, scandals, unspoken rules, fan obsessions, sponsorship scams, and more are key focal points for satire. The characters in "The Story of the Crew" are lovable and kind-hearted individuals who, whether chasing dreams or driven by life's necessities, come together from all directions, handling their noble work—enriching people's cultural and entertainment lives—with dedication and enthusiasm; they take joy in it and never tire. They are a group of distinct ordinary people, with many small flaws but mostly high character. Among them are certainly those with ulterior motives, yet in significant moral issues, most manage to stay clear-headed and steadfast. "The Story of the Crew" will adopt a series format where each story is relatively independent, with each episode related but not directly connected. Titles like "Empty Talk in Military Strategy," "My Hidden Rules," "Not Being the Big Brother for Many Years," "Summoned in Times of Crisis," "Frying You Without Negotiation," "Fateful Lovers," and "Naked Substitutes Scandal" focus on individual emotions and helplessness. The show will use a "play within a play" format, where the scenes reflect their workplace and living conditions. The series will showcase comically absurd and amusing snapshots from life, revealing the colorful spirit of film and television workers, allowing audiences to learn interesting, lesser-known stories from the industry.
