The film tells the story of love and hatred between two generations from Shahe Town and Wanjiazhuang in the 1930s. The villagers of Wanjiazhuang and Shahe Town both drink from the Qinghe River, but because of disputes over the water source, they have lived in enmity until death, no longer interacting with each other.
