In early 1950, just twenty days after the liberation of Guangxi, the Kuomintang, unwilling to accept defeat, sent the spy Zhong Yulin into the strategic stronghold of Tea City in northern Guangxi. Zhong Yulin established contacts with the remnants of the Kuomintang, the notorious bandits in the Big Tea Mountain, and spies hidden within the Communist Party, preparing to attack Tea City.
