Adam (played by Ben Whishaw) is an obstetrician working in a public hospital. In public hospitals, both medical equipment and staffing are far inferior to private hospitals. Here, Adam not only faces endless overtime but also has to outsmart demanding and difficult patients, constantly under immense pressure. Fortunately, Adam has made some friends at the hospital, including the rookie intern Shudi (played by Ambika Mod). Adam has a boyfriend, Harry (played by Rory Fleck Byrne), whom he has been in a relationship with for many years. Although their relationship is stable, Adam has yet to reveal his sexual orientation to his parents, let alone introduce Harry to them.
