In December 1936, the Xi'an Incident shocked the world and sparked a series of agreements between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party to force Chiang Kai-shek to fight against Japan. Ran Hua (played by Li Zhuolin), who is about to graduate from the army school, has his identity as an underground party member exposed by classmate Ning Pengfei (played by Xia Tian), leading to strict investigations by the authorities. Ran's fiancée, Shi Li (played by Zhang Wenqi), and her entire family are implicated, while Ran's younger brother, Ran Guo (played by Huang Wei), has nowhere to hide and is forced to become a bandit. After the July 7 Incident, Ran Hua and Pengfei respond to the call for a united front against Japan, mending their previous grievances and embarking on the path of resistance together.
