The 21-episode television series "Thirteen Cases of Homicide" is based on thirteen real homicide cases that have occurred in recent years, adapted and created into a drama where the main plots and characters are real. The production team conducted over thirty hours of television interviews with the perpetrators of these thirteen cases, incorporating these interviews as part of the show, which organically integrates with the storyline to form a complete film. They all claim they certainly did not intend to kill, yet admit that they ended up killing someone. What was the process that led to this? What factors caused the tragedy to occur? They are by no means inherently evil; the human weaknesses shared by all—selfishness, jealousy, ignorance, narrow-mindedness, and folly—destroyed their originally peaceful and happy lives. The people they murdered died in pain, while they continued to live without joy. We may also have faced dilemmas, have been hurt, and experienced the resulting resistance; the desire to uphold dignity is the same as that of these killers, perhaps even stronger. However, the difference is that they chose a wrong method. In an attempt to escape their predicament, they inadvertently placed themselves in an irretrievable deadlock and took the lives of those who caused their plight, becoming murderers. Thus, they became the characters in the story.
