In the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China, a tragedy spurred by family grievances and warlord violence alters the fate of Lian Cheng (played by Huang Jue), a servant of the wealthy Lian family. After the family's massacre, Lian Cheng becomes the guardian of the family's orphan and seeks revenge. Subsequently, in his journey to escape, he manages to join the Kuomintang and follows his benefactor Su Zhidan (played by Sun Hongtao) to participate in the revolution, during which Su plants the seeds of communism in Lian Cheng's heart. In the tumultuous era, Lian Cheng perseveres through numerous trials and tribulations with his passion and resilience, reaching a prominent position in the Nationalist government, while his true identity is that of an undercover agent arranged by the Communist Party beside Chiang Kai-shek. During this process, he also reunites with Han Kui (played by Zu Feng), the son of his family's nemesis, creating a vortex of national enmity and personal hatred... This film is based on a true story, featuring the protagonist Han Liancheng (originally named Han Guizhang), known as the highest-ranking undercover agent within the Kuomintang in history.
