"Soul Ferry: Nanyang Legend" tells the story of Xia Dongqing and the soul ferryman Zhao Li, as they help souls trapped in the human world due to unfinished business. Xia Dongqing, who appears to have no presence at all, harbors a secret—he possesses a pair of special eyes that allow him to see beings from another world, commonly known as "yin-yang eyes," and communicate with them. This secret brings Xia Dongqing a lot of trouble. Growing up in an orphanage, he has just graduated from college and is preparing for graduate school entrance exams while seeking part-time jobs. He is eventually hired by a 24-hour convenience store named "444 Convenience Store." Unbeknownst to him, 444 Convenience Store is a connection point between two different dimensions—a "soul station." The store is managed by Zhao Li, a soul ferryman who works as a civil servant in the underworld. Zhao Li has been guarding the convenience store for 500 years, welcoming and guiding souls to their rightful worlds. With Xia Dongqing's arrival, he no longer operates alone. In an unexpected incident, Xia Dongqing helps a soul named Olivia return to her body. When she wakes up, she becomes a regular customer at the convenience store and a friend of Xia Dongqing. Unlike Xia Dongqing, who possesses supernatural abilities, and Zhao Li, who is inherently non-human, Olivia, as an ordinary girl, joins Xia Dongqing and Zhao Li in their adventures, helping souls trapped in the human world due to unfinished business.
