Foshan Zansheng Hall is a well-regarded medical hall in the city, owned by Leung Chan (played by Yuen Biao), who is not only the best in Wing Chun but also possesses exceptional medical skills, earning the admiration of the local community. Leung Chan has two sons; the elder son Leung Bi (played by Nicholas Tse) is naturally intelligent, while the younger son Leung Chun is honest and straightforward. Leung Bi has always wanted to practice martial arts, but Leung Chan disapproves of him doing so and has refused to pass on the Wing Chun teachings for many years. Left with no choice, Leung Bi decides to train by himself and associates with a group of friends who enjoy drinking and fighting for justice. When a local thug misbehaves, Leung Bi gives him a thorough beating. In retaliation, the thug brings in a wandering master to challenge Zansheng Hall. Leung Chan is compelled to confront him and, while ultimately defeating the formidable opponent, he feels that Leung Bi is merely seeking trouble and practicing rudimentary skills, thus punishing him severely.
