The series opens a door for viewers, returning to the East End of London in the 1950s, with the story continuing to revolve around this special group of midwives and nursing nuns. Nurse Jenny Lee and the midwives and nuns from Nonnatus House visit expectant mothers in the Poplar area, providing the best care for the poorest women. In this season, we will see Chummy, Noakes, and little Freddy back in the East End of London, while Sister Bernadette (now known as Shelagh since leaving the convent) prepares for her wedding to Dr. Turner, and Jenny faces enormous challenges in her personal life and career. During Christmas, an unexploded WWII bomb is discovered in a warehouse near Nonnatus House, leaving the nuns and dozens of local families homeless. Dr. Turner races against time to vaccinate children against polio, but when the disease approaches, he finds there is nothing he can do but hold onto hope. When a royal visitor comes to the East End, Chummy persuades them to open a new community center. It’s a race against time as Chummy tries to get everything ready for the big day. The series, written by Heidi Thomas and based on the memoirs of Jennifer Worth, has become one of the BBC's most successful dramas and has been renewed after two seasons. All the beloved characters from the first two seasons will return, with some new faces added in the third season.
