BBC Two has confirmed the booking of the comedy "Upstart Crow" written by Ben Elton, which primarily tells the life story of William Shakespeare and will be broadcast as part of the BBC's Shakespeare anniversary festival in 2016. David Mitchell will play the young Shakespeare; also starring are Harry Enfield, Paula Wilcox, Liza Tarbuck, and Gemma Whelan. Part of the storyline will come from Shakespeare’s sources of inspiration. Elton stated, "I try to tell the story from Shakespeare's perspective, even writing the script with a quill made from a chicken feather, and I haven't changed my underwear in a year." The 2016 Shakespeare anniversary festival will feature a series of events commemorating the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death.
