Located in the remote Toyo University Medical Department affiliated hospital, it has gained national fame for Professor Kiyoshi Saeki's (played by Masaya Uchiyama) remarkable "Saeki-style" mitral valve repair surgery. The professor's ceremonial black hemostatic forceps add a touch of myth to his character. In stark contrast stands the Dihua University Hospital, which far surpasses Toyo University in overall strength. Professor Keisuke Nishizaki (played by Kōsuke Ichikawa) is engaged in an intense rivalry with Professor Saeki for the presidency of the Japanese Society of General Surgery. To this end, Nishizaki sends his star pupil, Kenta Takashiro (played by Kōtarō Koizumi), to infiltrate the enemy camp, attempting to shake Saeki's position with the latest medical devices. However, under Saeki's command is a troublesome figure named Seijirō Tokukai (played by Kazunari Ninomiya), who saves endangered lives with his superb surgical skills, but his caustic tongue and dark personality make him a terrifying "demon doctor."
