A flood separates childhood friends Mio and Noe. Mio is taken in by the owner of a famous restaurant in Osaka, Tenman Ichijōan, who provides her with warmth and discovers her exceptional cooking talent. A fire destroys the restaurant and takes the owner's life. Mio and the owner’s widow, determined to revive the name of Tenman Ichijōan, move to Edo. By chance, they are discovered by the owner of a restaurant called Tsuruya, who is reminded of his deceased daughter. After recognizing Mio's talent, he allows her to help out at Tsuruya. Initially, Mio's dishes do not please customers and even anger some, making her culinary journey arduous. After several setbacks and guidance from a wandering samurai, Komatsubara, and Dr. Nagata, Mio realizes the differences between Osaka and Edo cuisine and makes changes. The improved food gains recognition, but it is soon mimicked by other shops, prompting Mio to ponder a taste that truly belongs to her. Meanwhile, the success of Tsuruya makes established restaurants envious and eager to sabotage her; on the other hand, her childhood friend Noe is in Edo, protecting Mio with her own strength...
