The story takes place in the Edo period. To escape unpleasant memories, the beautiful and agile girl Akina (played by Haru) comes to work as a maid at her uncle Ibun's (played by Shiro Sano) bag shop, Mishimaya. She is diligent and hardworking, and everyone at Mishimaya is quite pleased with her. By chance, Akina steps in to receive a guest who had made a reservation on behalf of her uncle. The guest appears anxious and hesitant to speak. Confident in her ability to help others with their troubles, Akina takes on the role of a listener. However, the guest begins to tell a haunting and eerie story about the "Flower of the Dead," the red spider lily. This marks the beginning, and in the following days, Akina hears and records one strange story after another (haunted houses, forbidden love, magic mirrors, eerie sounds). Unbeknownst to her, she becomes embroiled in these tales... This film is adapted from the original work by Miyuki Miyabe.
