Approaching middle age, Nagasato Daisuke (played by Shingo Katori) works at a stationery company in Tokyo. He finally gets a loan and buys his own apartment in the bustling city center. With many refined hobbies, he aims to transform the space into his own castle, unwilling to welcome his estranged father, let alone deal with bothersome romance and noisy colleagues. However, things take a turn when a fashionable single woman, Kumagai Hanako (played by Juri Ueno), moves into the apartment above him and frequently criticizes the products of Daisuke's company. Their relationship is destined to be strained. To make matters worse, Daisuke's father, Yōzō (played by Toshiyuki Nishida), unexpectedly moves in with his new wife's son.
