The series is adapted from the popular manga "Detective Kyoshin" by renowned manga artist Hideo Ura, serialized in Shogakukan's "Big Comic Original" [semi-monthly for young adults]. Tadanobu Asano plays the detective Kyoshin, who possesses unique deductive reasoning and observational skills, free from any preconceived notions. He uses his keen insight to reveal the dark sides of human nature and is willing to employ illegal methods to pursue the truth. Ryunosuke Kamiki plays the rookie detective Toru Ubu, who is outstanding academically, honest, serious, and has a strong sense of justice. In the series, Ubu often finds himself at the beck and call of Kyoshin, as the two drastically different partners work together to solve various challenging cases. The show presents each episode as a self-contained case, featuring different guest stars in each installment.
