"The Sopranos" is a popular American television series reflecting themes of the mafia, which has high viewership in the U.S. and has become a frequent winner at the Golden Globes and Emmy Awards in recent years. It began airing on HBO in 1999, quickly becoming a hit and remaining popular over the years. The series has won a total of 74 awards, including 5 Golden Globes and 17 Emmys, with 173 nominations across various categories. Starring James Gandolfini, who won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for this role in 2000 and 2001, the show has established him as one of Hollywood's brightest television stars. The show's dark atmosphere is suffocating, with intense plots that captivate viewers. After the death of the boss of the mob that Italian immigrant descendant Tony Soprano belongs to, Tony becomes the head of New Jersey's largest crime syndicate. However, he does not embody the commanding presence typical of mafia film bosses; instead, he faces immense pressure from two families closely tied to him. Operating under the cover of a waste management business, the crime syndicate earns significant profits from drug trafficking, gambling, and murder, but internal operations are fraught with difficulties. Though Carlo Soprano likes his nephew Tony, he is unwilling to be seen as junior in the group, and he manipulates Tony's formidable mother, Livia Soprano, to achieve his aims. Christopher Moltisanti, who was raised by Tony, is fiercely loyal to him and would even take a bullet for him, yet his impulsive nature frequently causes trouble for both his crew and the mob as a whole. Additionally, the FBI won't easily overlook any loopholes that could dismantle Tony's organization. At home, the Soprano family doesn’t make Tony's life any easier. After experiencing a hazy affair, Carmela Soprano begins to question the meaning of her twenty-year marriage to Tony, leading her to take the shocking step of asking for a divorce, something unprecedented in the mafia's "first family." Tony's eldest daughter, Meadow Soprano, excels in her studies and doesn't mind her father's illegal income; however, when her parents interfere with her social life, the Soprano family's volatile temper is evident even in the otherwise carefree Meadow. Compared to his exceptional sister, Anthony Soprano is merely an average youth, lacking in both academic and criminal prowess, which has caused the separated Tony and Carmela significant concern for their failing son. Under the pressure of both career and family, Tony develops anxiety. Having witnessed how his father Johnny coped with anxiety, Tony does what no mafia figure has ever done—he seeks out a psychiatrist. This decision grants him a confidant to trust and share his burdens with, but it forever alters Dr. Jennifer Melfi's previously tranquil life. @m.yakutv.cc
