The protagonists of the story, Ben Epstein (Bryan Greenberg) and Cam Calderon (Victor Rasuk), are two young men in their twenties living in the Brooklyn area of New York City, very ambitious and eager to integrate into the vibrant world of New York. They aim to carve out their own niche in the competitive fashion scene and realize their American Dream through hard work. They are not short on brains, insights, or connections; the only thing they lack is a bit of luck. Cam's cousin Rene (Luis Guzman) has given them a lot of support, as he himself is struggling to promote a new energy drink. Their good friend Domingo’s "all-powerful" network has also brought benefits to their business. Lake Bell plays the female lead, Rachel, who is Ben's ex-girlfriend. Rachel is pursuing her own career and new boyfriend and wants nothing to do with Ben, but fate seems to pull them back together. Other characters include: Rachel's boss Edie (Martha Plimpton), an eccentric interior designer. Ben and Cam's female friend Gingy (Shannyn Sossamon), an artist.
