"Before Janeway and Picard, before Sisko, Spock, and Kirk, there was the first group of crew members exploring the universe, paving the way for future generations. The final frontier... A new beginning has arrived. The USS Enterprise." -- Excerpt from UPN's promotional material for summer 2001         This series is the latest installment in the Star Trek franchise, but its story has ancient roots, beginning before the various iterations of Star Trek, making it a prequel. The time setting is approximately around the year 2150, about a century after humanity's scientists first discovered the principles of warp drive. After nearly a century of hard work, humanity finally succeeded in developing the first warp engine capable of stable faster-than-light travel and built the largest spacecraft in human history, the Enterprise! This ship is the result of generations of human effort and symbolizes humanity's relentless pursuit and forward spirit! It will take us into the "vast universe that humanity has never before ventured into"!!         Star Trek: Enterprise is set a few years before the establishment of the United Federation of Planets and depicts the adventures of Captain Jonathan Archer and the crew of the Enterprise (NX-01). The Enterprise was the first Earth starship capable of traveling at warp 5, enabling its crew to make first contact with many extraterrestrial species. They encounter some familiar races such as the Tellarites and Andorians, as well as a very well-known Andorian named Shran. The series concludes in 2154, with the founding of the United Federation of Planets, which ultimately occurred in 2161!!         Star Trek: Enterprise is the fifth television series in the Star Trek franchise, created by Rick Berman and Brannon Braga, premiering in 2001. Set in the 22nd century, the storyline unfolds during the voyages of the USS Enterprise, the first Earth starship to reach warp 5. This television series broke conventions in many ways; it is the only "Star Trek" series where the main cast remains unchanged throughout its run and is the first "Star Trek" series shot in HDTV format instead of the traditional 4:3 format. It is also the first to use computer-generated imagery for the entire depiction of the starship throughout the series and the only one with a theme song featuring lyrics. Initially, the title was just Enterprise; the "Star Trek" prefix was added in Season 3, in the episode "Extinction." After four seasons, the series was canceled by UPN on February 2, 2005, with the final episode airing on May 13. Since the original series, this has been the first "Star Trek" series to end prematurely, and it is the first with fewer than seven seasons, although it did manage to produce a total of 98 episodes. Speculation online suggests that the cancellation was due to low ratings, with episodes in Seasons 3 and 4 being reduced, and more seriously, many fans felt that the series was inconsistent, particularly blaming its darker tone, which became more pronounced in the third and fourth seasons.         “UPN is very proud of the actors, the production, and the overall achievements of Star Trek: Enterprise, but there will be no more episodes. We believe this show remains vibrant, as evidenced by the fans' demand for books, DVDs, and other related products. We are grateful for the long-standing enthusiasm fans have shown for all things Star Trek, and we hope they can look forward to the next chapter of this series with us.” “We will close the chapter on Star Trek: Enterprise and move forward...”         【On the issue of the title】 Speaking of the ship's name Enterprise, many Taiwanese translators have previously translated it as "Enterprise." If you look it up in the dictionary, you will find that "Enterprise" means both a business and a spirit of initiative. After thorough research into the content of the Star Trek series, mainland China adopted the name "Enterprise." Historically, the name Enterprise was also that of the first space shuttle in U.S. history; although it never flew, it symbolizes humanity's endless spirit of exploration for the future, the spirit of initiative!
