The story of The Age of Steel begins in the spring of 1948. After the liberation of Anshan Steel, Shang Tielong (played by Chen Baoguo) and Yang Shoushan (played by Feng Yuanzheng) led their respective teams in a technical competition. Japanese engineer Kadai (played by Matsumine Riri) developed a keen interest in Shang during her work. During the competition, conflicts arose between Shang Tielong and Yang Shoushan, while Shang's wife, Maicao (played by Jiang Hongbo), mistakenly married Yang Shoushan while searching for her husband, which often caused embarrassment between the two families. Shang's son Jinhu (played by Lin Xiaofan) and Yang's daughter Xiaomen'er (played by Zhang Jianing) were childhood sweethearts who set aside their parents' grievances to venture into the Siberian wilderness to support border construction. Wei Deniu, originally Shang Tielong's subordinate and now the leader of the youth volunteer group, inspired the younger generation with Shang's spirit. During the three years of hardship, Xiaomen'er wanted to give up, but Wei Deniu slaughtered an ox to reward everyone, helping the entire group through the most difficult times...
