Adam (Ben Whishaw) is an obstetrician working in a public hospital, where both medical equipment and staff allocations are far inferior to those in private hospitals. Here, Adam faces not only endless overtime but also the challenge of dealing with difficult and demanding patients, living under immense pressure for a long time. Fortunately, he has made some friends at the hospital, including the rookie intern, Shudi (Ambika Mod). Adam has been in a stable relationship for many years with his boyfriend Harry (Rory Fleck Byrne), yet he has never revealed his sexual orientation to his parents, let alone introduced Harry to them. An accidental misdiagnosis by Adam leads to the premature birth of a baby, which becomes a tightening noose around his neck, gradually suffocating him.
