Jonathan (Tom Hiddleston) was once a soldier fighting on the frontlines in Iraq. After leaving the military, he takes a job as a night manager in a luxurious hotel. One day, Jonathan has a chance encounter with a beautiful woman named Sophie (Aure Atika) and falls for her at first sight. However, Sophie is the mistress of an arms smuggler, and she secretly hands Jonathan a confidential document involving Richard (Hugh Laurie), a big player in the British arms black market, before meeting an untimely death. Subsequently, Jonathan starts working at a hotel in Zermatt, Switzerland, where he meets British intelligence officer Angela (Olivia Colman). Angela extends an olive branch, hoping he can assist her in investigating the arms trade and secret intelligence in the black market.
