"Emma" is Jane Austen's last work published during her lifetime. This version is the 2009 BBC mini-series. Emma Woodhouse (Romola Garai) comes from a wealthy family; she is intelligent, beautiful, witty, and has a high opinion of herself. She has decided not to marry but has an entertaining hobby—playing matchmaker. However, each time she tries to bring couples together, it is based on whimsical notions or impulsive decisions, often ending in failure. Emma's interference in the marriages of others causes dissatisfaction with her family friend Knightley (Jonny Lee Miller), who advises her to let couples handle their own romantic affairs, as interference only complicates matters. This prompts Emma to start reflecting on her actions. As she spends more time with Knightley, she discovers his admirable qualities. In the end, although Emma doesn't successfully arrange any matches, she finds herself falling in love with Knightley and they end up marrying.
