Recently, British television writer Jimmy McGovern, who won an Emmy Award for "The Street," announced that he will create a seven-part series for the BBC titled "Banished." The series will star Russell Tovey, along with MyAnna Buring, Julian Rhind-Tutt, and David Wenham, and it tells the story of a group of criminals exiled to Australia by Britain in the 18th century. A synopsis from the BBC describes the series as exploring the lives, loves, friendships, and struggles for survival of these exiled criminals, as well as the soldiers tasked with guarding them in this territory. Russell Tovey plays the lead male role of the criminal, who strives to create a new life upon his arrival in Australia, becoming a leader with the help of other criminals, conveying idealistic beliefs, while facing severe conflicts with a brutal army major. The series is set to begin filming in Australia in April 2014 and is expected to air on BBC2 in early next year.
