"The Sopranos" is a highly popular American television series reflecting mob themes in recent years, with high viewership in the United States and being a regular award winner at the Golden Globe Awards and the Emmys. It began airing on HBO in 1999, quickly becoming a hit and remaining popular ever since. The series has won 74 various awards, including 5 Golden Globes and 17 Emmys, and received 173 nominations. The lead actor James Gandolfini won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for this role in both 2000 and 2001, making him one of Hollywood's brightest television stars. The show's dark atmosphere can be suffocating, with tense and engaging storylines. After the death of the boss of the mob that Italian immigrant Tony Soprano belongs to, Tony becomes the head of New Jersey's largest crime organization. However, he does not exude the commanding presence of mob bosses seen in films; on the contrary, the two families closely tied to Tony put immense pressure on him. The front line crime organization, operating under the guise of a waste management company, profits handsomely from various businesses, including drug trafficking, gambling, and murder, but internal workings within the mob are not smooth. Although Uncle Junior Soprano is fond of his nephew Tony, he is reluctant to remain in a subordinate position within the organization, and he uses Tony's formidable mother, Livia Soprano, to achieve his goals. Christopher Moltisanti, raised by Tony, is fiercely loyal to him and would even take a bullet for him; however, the impulsive young Christopher often gets into trouble with his associates and brings a lot of problems to the entire mob. Moreover, the FBI is relentless in seeking any weaknesses that can bring down Tony's mob. At home, the Soprano family also gives Tony no peace. Carmela Soprano, after experiencing a hazy extramarital affair, begins to reflect on whether her twenty-year marriage to Tony has any meaning, leading her to take a shocking step: asking Tony for a divorce, something never seen in the mob's "first family." Tony's eldest daughter, Meadow Soprano, excels academically and doesn't care much about her father's illegal earnings, but when her parents interfere with her freedom to choose friends, the violent temper of the Soprano family also shows in the innocent and lively Meadow. Compared to the outstanding sister, Anthony Soprano is just an ordinary teenager, lacking in both academic and criminal talent, and the separated Tony and Carmela have enough to worry about with their disappointing son. Under the dual pressure of career and family, Tony develops anxiety. Having witnessed his father, Johnny, endure the torment of anxiety, Tony does something a mob figure has never done – consult a psychiatrist. This decision gives him a confidant he can trust and confide in, but it also forever alters the previously calm life of Dr. Jennifer Melfi. @m.yakutv.cc
