The protagonists of the story, Ben Epstein (Bryan Greenberg) and Cam Calderon (Victor Rasuk), are two ambitious young men in their early twenties living in the Brooklyn area of New York City. Eager to embrace the vibrant world of New York, they strive to carve their niche in the highly competitive fashion scene and achieve their American dream through hard work. They are not lacking in intelligence, insight, or connections; the only thing they are short on is a bit of luck. Cam's cousin, Rene (Luis Guzman), provides them with significant help, and he himself is struggling to promote a new high-energy drink. Their good friend Domingo, with his "all-powerful" network, also brings considerable benefits to their business. Lake Bell plays the female lead, Rachel, who is Ben's ex-girlfriend.
